Swallowing disorders (or dysphagia) occur when an individual experiences difficulty or pain when swallowing. Signs of a swallowing problem can include coughing during or after eating, gurgly voice after eating, extra effort needed to chew, liquid leakage from the mouth, lump in the throat sensation, and difficulty breathing.
If you experience any of these symptoms, our therapists may work with you to improve how you swallow by:
Teaching targeted exercises to improve strength or timing when swallowing
Employing strategies to help you swallow better and safer
Making recommendations for food and liquid texture modifications
